In a world where speed often outruns reflection, leadership demands more than strategy and KPIs — it calls for self-awareness.

TopLeader Expert Karolina Filosek, a Gestalt-oriented coach, believes that true leadership begins with presence. In this interview, she shares how emotional intelligence and personal growth help leaders stay resilient, authentic, and connected in times of change.

"The future belongs to emotionally intelligent leaders."

"Why do you believe personal development is essential for success in today’s dynamic work environment?"

In today’s fast-changing environment, technical skills aren’t enough — leaders need emotional intelligence and self-awareness. From a Gestalt perspective, growth starts with awareness of one’s own emotions, patterns, and impact on others. Leaders who invest in personal development become more resilient, adaptable, and relationally attuned — and that’s what makes them effective and inspiring.

"Can you share a significant ‘aha moment’ or an inspiring story from your coaching experience where leadership development made a real impact?"

I once worked with a leader who always felt he had to “hold everything together” for his team. In our coaching sessions, I invited him to pay attention to the here and now — his tension, his words, and the subtle ways he repeated patterns of over-responsibility even in our conversations. Slowly, he became aware that these behaviors were limiting both himself and his team. By practicing trust, empathy, and active listening — core elements of emotional intelligence — he began to shift. Over time, his team grew more confident and independent, and he discovered the freedom to focus on vision rather than micromanagement. By our final session, he shared a profound insight: for the first time, he could focus on himself without feeling guilty for not constantly carrying everything for others..

"What are the most common challenges managers face in growing as leaders, and how do you help them overcome these?"

The most common challenges I see are:

Letting go of control and learning to delegate with trust.

Developing emotional intelligence — especially empathy and self-regulation.

Leading in uncertanty while staying authentic.

"What aspect of coaching inspires you the most and keeps you motivated to help your clients grow?"

What inspires me most is witnessing those moments when a client connects to their own strength and emotional clarity. In Gestalt coaching, awareness itself is curative — and seeing a leader suddenly realize “I don’t have to do it all alone” is profoundly moving. Those transformations remind me of my own path: learning to balance responsibility with freedom, and finding strength in authentic connection.

My approach is Gestalt-based: helping leaders notice what they feel, how they react in the moment, and how their presence affects others. By increasing emotional awareness, they gain choice — and that’s where real growth begins.

"How do you see a platform like TopLeader helping companies develop their people and enhance leadership skills?"

TopLeader offers more than just a platform — it creates a space where leaders can pause, reflect, and become aware of how they show up in the moment. By combining structured programs, coaching, and peer learning, it encourages growth in both skills and emotional intelligence, helping leaders notice patterns, build empathy, and strengthen resilience. This approach allows leaders to move beyond simply managing tasks and instead inspire, empower, and co-create with their teams.

"What trends or changes do you see shaping the future of leadership and personal development?"

The future belongs to emotionally intelligent leaders who can combine clarity with empathy, strength with vulnerability. With hybrid work, cultural diversity, and AI shaping organizations, leadership is less about command and more about relational presence. Those who can create trust, foster collaboration, and stay grounded in uncertainty will shape workplaces where people — and ideas — thrive.

Karolina’s perspective is a reminder that growth starts from within. When leaders learn to notice, their feelings, patterns, and impact, they gain the freedom to lead with clarity and empathy.

That’s what makes expert-led development not just valuable, but transformative.
